Want to spoil your cats but don't have a fortune to spend? Build a cat tree! It's fun, simple and very inexpensive. Best of all, you get a custom cat tree for a fraction of the price.
Before I even brought my new kitten home I knew I wanted a cat tree for him. My friend has a beautiful custom cat tower and her cat just adores it. But when she told me how much she'd spent on it I nearly had a heart attack. There was no way I could afford something like that.

So I started shopping around. There were some in my local pet store but it was a wobbly, one size- one color fits all affair. Ugly and generic as it was, it still wasn't cheap. Because it was so unsturdy I was worried it wouldn't be safe. So I kept looking.
Online I found some lovely cat trees. They were everything I could have wanted for my baby. They came in a hug variety of sizes, shapes and colors. But the cost was out of this world. The shipping alone on this cat furniture was more than my budget would allow.
Luckily while I was looking online, I came across this site that had a DIY package of 11 cat tree plans. This got me to thinking... Why don't I build a cat tree?
Now this was a little on the wild side for me because I'm not what you would call a handy person. But I do know a hammer from a screw driver and seriously, how hard can it be?
Because they were instantly downloadable I had my cat tree plans in hand within 5 minutes deciding to get them. About 20 minutes after that I knew I'd made the right decision and was sure I could build a cat tree for my new kitten.
The materials list made it easy to get everything I needed from the store. I got it all in one trip, which is something of a miracle for me. The guys at the home center even made some of the big cuts for me so the pieces would fit better into my car. That cut down on the amount of work I had to do as well. I got that tip from the plans or I'd never have known home centers will do that for you... and guess what? It's included in the cost of the materials so it didn't cost any extra!
Now for the big question... How hard is it to build a cat tree?
I'm not gonna lie... It did take me a few days to complete (I work kinda slow) but I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it was to build a cat condo of my very own. I just followed the step by step directions always referring to the photos as I worked. Before I knew it I had a lovely piece of cat furniture and my kitten loves it!
